Chloromethyl Resin

Merrifield Resin, also known as Chloromethyl Resin, is the original solid support used in R. B. Merrifields pioneering solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS). It is a polystyrene matrix crosslinked with divinylbenzene (DVB) and functionalized with reactive chloromethyl groups, enabling attachment of the first amino acid through a stable benzyl ester bond. This resin remains a classical choice for synthesizing peptides with C-terminal free acids.
